Kate, overall, I think this activity will be fun for these students. Based on what you have written so far, here are some objectives and thoughts for consideration.

Activity: Make a Tag Cloud
Goal: To assist you to practice tagging information by making a tag cloud.

Objectives:
1) To describe tagging and how it works (in a variety of situations).

2) To explore how tagging works (information identification, sorting, categorizing, retrieval).

3) To practice generating a tag cloud that will represent the main ideas in a short (no more than 3 pages) article.

4) To examine how tagging might be used in different contexts?

5) To create a tag cloud as a mechanism for visually representing key concepts you are learning in this course?

Procedure:
Q. Would it be wise to give them a few steps to follow?

Criteria:
Q. Will a "good" tag cloud on this article be available for them to see? In other words, is there specific information or concepts you want them to note in the article? I guess this ties back to the overall outcome you are hoping for in relation to this activity.
Q. Is this to be done as an individual activity?
Q. How long do they have to do this?
Q. Will they de-brief this activity in the lab as a small group discussion for instance? This could be a way for them to get at the last objective (if this is relevant).

Q. What about show and tell? Do they make a presentation to talk about their tag clouds and what they learned in the process?

Requirements:
Q. any?
